Appreciation. A word that is familiar yet not expressed as much as it should. Merriam-Webster defines it as a feeling or expression of admiration, approval, or gratitude. Let’s face it, it’s a great feeling to receive appreciation for our work or actions. The simple praises or words of encouragement lifts our spirits and tells us that what we do matters. It lets us know that we are valued. Appreciation is a catalyst that sparks inspiration in individuals and fosters encouragement across teams, among friends, and throughout families. Being recognized for what we do is priceless. So why are we more often willing to share a negative experience rather than to share a great one? As a Harvard Business Review article states, people are often more experienced at expressing negative emotions — reactively and defensively.
This blog topic is common. You can search online and find blog posts, articles, research on all the benefits of positive feedback, reasons to thank customers, and how to create high impact teams with praise. Instead of writing about the importance of saying thank you, I am going to do it instead.
It occurred to me the other day that all of our Learning and Development professionals who support our clients deserve sincere praise. TTA (The Training Associates) celebrated its 24th anniversary in January of 2018. Our Chairman of the Board and founder of TTA, Vic Melfa, sent the most heartfelt message to all of us at the company. He expressed his sincere appreciation for all that we do for our clients. This message of appreciation was preceded by Maria Melfa, President and CEO, in a company meeting months earlier. While this is a consistent and frequent message at TTA, we also want to share it with you, our team of L&D professionals.
So, thank you. As Maria and Vic often say “Because of your work, thousands of people, of all ages and at thousands of companies, have learned important skills to make them better workers, people, and family members.”
We appreciate all our learning and development professionals who deliver exceptional results for our clients. Your contribution is valued. You are truly amazing. I can say this with confidence because I talk with our clients and hear their stories about how you deliver amazing results for their training projects.
I really feel like a proud parent when I hear positive feedback from our clients. It’s real, sincere, and remarkable. That is not to say that everything is perfect all the time but when you hear how they work to solve unforeseen challenges and go above and beyond to get the job done for clients, that’s what it is all about. Our L&D professionals are the company’s “feet on the street” and our business model of deploying the best L&D contract professionals has not changed in the past two decades.
It’s a new year, and I am going to kick it off by saying your passion for learning and expertise does not go unnoticed. Your work makes each and every one of our clients happy, loyal, and successful. The trust we have in you, our team of L&D experts, is why our clients count on us for the past 24 years to deliver exceptional learning outcomes.
Thank you for all that you do. From traveling to deliver training where and when you need to be there, to working in the late hours of the night to make the final touches on that eLearning module…because it has to be just right.
